TEMISKAMING SHORES, COBALT – On April 8, 2021, members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Temiskaming Crime Unit commenced an investigation into a historical sexual assault in the City of Temiskaming Shores.
The alleged incidents occurred in the last two years involving a young person under the age of 18 years.
A 19-year-old resident of Cobalt, has been arrested and charged with:
- Invitation to sexual touching under 16 years of age, contrary to section 152 of the Criminal Code (CC),
- Sexual Assault on a person under 16 years of age, contrary to section 271 of the CC (two counts), and
- Sexual Interference, contrary to section151 of the CC (two counts).
The accused was held for a Bail Hearing and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date in the City of Temiskaming Shores.
A 17-year old resident of Cobalt has been arrested and charged with:
- Incest, contrary to section 155 of the CC,
- Sexual Assault on a person under 16 years of age, contrary to section 271 of the CC,
- Sexual interference, contrary to section151 of the CC, and • Invitation to sexual touching under 16 years of age, contrary to section 152 of the CC.
The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Youth Court of Justice at a later date in the City of Temiskaming Shores.
The OPP will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victim.
