Two charged after two break and enters at same Kirkland Lake building

Both are facing multiple break and enter as well as theft charges

On July 3, 2022, frontline members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began an investigation into a break and enter at a commercial building on Al Wende Drive in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

On July 13, 2022, Police were called for a second break and enter to the same property.

As part of the investigation a search warrant was executed at a residence on Duncan Avenue South, in Kirkland Lake. As a result, two people were arrested, and stolen property was recovered.

Brooks Sampson, 27 years of age, of Kirkland Lake, has been charged with the following;

  • Break, enter a place - commit indictable offence, contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC) (two counts)
  • Theft over $5,000, contrary to section 334(a) of the CC (two counts)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC
  • Mischief - destroys or damages property, contrary to section 430(1)(a) of the CC (two counts)

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice by video on July 18, 2022.

Michael Bagley, 30 years of age, of Kirkland Lake, has been charged with the following;

  • Break, enter a place - commit indictable offence, contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC) (two counts)
  • Theft over $5,000, contrary to section 334(b) of the CC (two counts)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC
  • Mischief - destroys or damages property, contrary to section 430(1)(a) of the CC (two counts)

The accused was released on Judicial Release Order and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 25, 2022, in Kirkland Lake.
