Two charged after police seize suspected fentanyl, meth in Kirkland Lake

KIRKLAND LAKE - On July 8, 2020, The North East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) with the assistance of the Crime Unit from the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed a search warrant at a residence on Harding Avenue in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

Police seized drugs suspected to be opioids (fentanyl) and methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $20,600.

As a result, two people have been charged.

Ryan Carlson, age 32; and Melissa Burnside, age 35, both of Kirkland Lake, were charged with the following:
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), and
    •    Possession of a Scheduled I Substance - methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA.

The accused were released on an Undertaking and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on Aug. 27, 2020.
