Traffic complaint leads to impaired driving charge in Earlton

ARMSTRONG TOWNSHIP, TEMISKAMING SHORES - On April 7, 2021 shortly before 2:30 p.m., members from the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for a traffic complaint between 12th Avenue in the Township of Armstrong and Highway 65 in the City of Temiskaming Shores.   

Preliminary details revealed that a driver was operating a vehicle with open liquor.  

On the same date, shortly after 8:30 p.m. officers conducted a traffic stop for a traffic violation on Highway 11 near Wilson Road in the City of Temiskaming Shores.  

Further investigation revealed that the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages, and was the same individual from the traffic complaint. The accused was arrested and transported to the detachment to conduct further testing. 

 As a result, Seth Pannell, an 18-year-old resident of Armstrong Township, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code. 

The accused was released by way of an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on April 27, 2021 in the City of Temiskaming Shores. 

The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded.

The OPP reminds motorists that any amount of alcohol or drug can impair one's ability to drive. If you observe a suspected impaired driver, please call 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 and report it.
