Traffic complaint leads to impaired driving arrest near Kirkland Lake

KIRKLAND LAKE - On Nov. 23, 2020 at approximately 3:29 p.m., members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of an impaired driver travelling on Highway 11.

Police located and stopped the vehicle on Highway 11 in Eby Township, further investigation revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

As a result, Nicholas Bezjak, age 35 of Temiskaming Shores, has been charged with the following:
    •    Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code, and
    •    Driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The driver was issued a 90 day administrative driver's licence suspension (ADLS) and the motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Jan. 7, 2021 in Kirkland Lake.
