Traffic complaint leads to impaired charges near Hearst

On May 24, 2022, members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver, driving unsafely on Highway 11, in the Mattice - Val Coté Township, East of Hearst.

Police intercepted the motor vehicle on Drouin Road in Mattice - Val Coté and spoke to the driver. Further investigation revealed that the driver was found to have consumed alcoholic beverages.

As a result, the driver was arrested, driver's licence suspended, the vehicle was towed and impounded.

Amanda Veilleux, 30-years-old of Mattice - Val Coté, was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while pmpaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code, contrary to section 320.18(1)(a) of the CC
  • Dangerous operation, contrary to section 320.13(1) of the CC
  • Operation while impaired - Alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 3, 2022, in Hearst.
