NEWS RELEASE
TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE
*************************
The Timmins Police Service is issuing a Traffic Advisory in regards to anticipated potential traffic congestion affecting Highway 655 and Algonquin Blvd on Sunday, Aug. 1.

The Timmins Police Service is aware that event participants will be completing a ceremonial “Walk of Sorrow” with a brief stopover in Timmins this Sunday.

Our best information is that the procession will be making its way into the city with a brief staging at the parking lot off of Hwy 655 just north of the intersection of Ross Avenue and Hwy 655.

Members of the public who wish to participate are asked to wear conspicuous clothing to increase their visibility for vehicular traffic in the affected area.

The procession is expected to make its way to Hollinger Park at approximately 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 1.

It is expected that this culturally significant event will likely impact local traffic flows on Hwy 655 and then onto Algonquin Blvd as the procession of “walkers” make their way to Hollinger Park.

Traffic control will be undertaken by the Timmins Police Service at key intersections in order to enhance the safety of those taking part in the procession.

Local motorists and commercial vehicle operators are asked to be particularly alert at the wheel in these affected areas to accommodate this procession in reaching its intended destination safely.

Lastly, the Timmins Police Service reminds all members of the public that current Covid-19 restrictions limit outdoor congregations to a maximum of 100 participants in total.
