Toronto man faces assault charges after Elm Street incident

The Timmins Police Service has investigated a disturbance that occurred on Saturday, July 23, at an Elm Street South residence where a 22-year-old man has been assaulted.

Based on investigation, it was determined that a 22-year-old male suspect and a second adult male person, entered into a physical altercation with an occupant of the residence.

The disturbance escalated into a physical altercation where a weapon was used to injure the 22-year-old male person.

One of the suspects was located at the scene and arrested by the Timmins Police Service.

A quantity of controlled substances was located on the suspect’s person and was seized as evidence.

The second male suspect remains a focal point of the investigation.

The victim received medical treatment for the injuries that he sustained during the altercation.

Based on the ensuing investigation, Lamar Johnson, 22, of Toronto has been charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Aggravated assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Uttering threats contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

The accused remains in police custody for the purposes of a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
