A Timmins teen has been arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle after being caught driving on a closed road, police said.
On March 18, shortly before 5 a.m., members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police conducted a traffic stop on Highway 11 in Clute Township, west of Cochrane, according to a news release. The highway was shut down at the time due to the inclement weather.
The vehicle had been reported as stolen out of Timmins.
As a result, a 16-year-old from Timmins, who cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested and charged with the following:
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
- Drive motor vehicle - no licence
- Drive on closed highway
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date in Cochrane.
