Temiskaming Shores driver facing impaired charges after crash

On Oct. 30, 2020 shortly before 2 a.m., members from the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 11 near Bedard Road in the City of Temiskaming Shores.   

Further investigation revealed that a motor vehicle was going southbound when the rollover occurred. The driver sustained minor injuries.

After speaking with the driver, the officer determined that that they had been consuming alcoholic beverages. The driver was arrested and transported to Temiskaming detachment to conduct breath tests.  The driver blew more than double the legal blood-alcohol limit.

 The accused, a 22-year-old resident of Temiskaming Shores has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC.

The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded. 

The accused was released by of an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Dec. 1, 2020 in the City of Temiskaming Shores. 

The OPP reminds motorists that any amount of alcohol or drug can impair one's ability to drive. If you observe a suspected impaired driver, please call 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 and report it.
