Temiskaming man accused of defrauding elderly Saskatchewan man: OPP

TEMISKAMING SHORES - On April 7, 2021, members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit began a fraud investigation, after being notified by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Saskatchewan. 

Further investigation revealed that an elderly resident of Humboldt had been defrauded by a male posing as a bank representative and he convinced the victim to withdraw a large sum of money and requested it be forwarded by mail to an address in Temiskaming Shores.   

On July 9, 2021, Lise Gervais, a 67-year-old resident of Temiskaming Shores, was arrested and charged with:

  • Fraud under $5,000, contrary to section 380(1) of the Criminal Code (CC).

The accused was released by way of an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 31, 2021 in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

The Temiskaming OPP is reminding the public to stay vigilant of frauds and scams.
