Teens facing assault charges in Moosonee

Police say the accused assaulted someone while holding an edged weapon

MOOSONEE — On Aug. 18, 2022, members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assault call on Hutchison Road, in the Town of Moosonee.

Three young persons assaulted another person while holding an edged weapon; no one was injured in this incident.

As a result of the investigation, a 16-year-old person, from Moosonee, has been arrested and charged with:

  • Assault with a Weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon, contrary to section 90 of the CC
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to section 88 of the CC

A 14-year-old and a 12-year-old person, from Moosonee were also arrested and charged with:

  • Assault with a Weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the CC
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to section 88 of the CC

All three accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Oct. 12, 2022, in Moosonee.

The OPP will not be releasing the name of the accused under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).
