Teen uses air gun and bear spray in assaults: police

Youth faces 10 counts of assault with a weapon in New Liskeard incident

Temiskaming OPP say a 16-year-old was arrested after they were called to an assault in progress on the evening of June 30 in New Liskeard.

Police say an air soft pistol was fired toward a group of people while they were walking. A short time later, an argument occurred at a business, which resulted in bear spray being discharged.

"Several people within the business were affected by the bear spray, but none had serious injuries," says Const. Chris Hawkins.

A 16-year-old resident of Temiskaming Shores has been arrested and charged with:

  • 10 counts of assault with a weapon
  • Four counts of Firearm - use while committing an offence
  • Two counts of Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Mischief - obstructs, interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment, or operation of property

The youth cannot be identified under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The teen was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Youth Court of Justice at a future date in Temiskaming Shores.

Temiskaming Emergency Medical Services also responded to the assault at the business.
