Teen facing assault charges

The Timmins Police Service has investigated a mid-morning disturbance that occurred at a Wende Avenue residence on Saturday, Dec. 4 resulting in an assault to a  57-year-old female person. 

The Timmins Police Service responded to an occurrence where a male young person entered into a verbal dispute with a female resident of the address. 

The altercation escalated to the point where the accused opted to assault the woman and cause damage to a Christmas tree located on the property. 

The woman sustained minor injury during the altercation. 

The value of the damaged tree is estimated to be $200. 

The responding Timmins Police officers were able to identify, locate, and arrest the male suspect a short distance from the original scene. 

As a result, a 13-year-old person who cannot be named in keeping with statutory requirements  has been charged with: 

  • 2 counts of Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Mischief Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 

The accused remains in police custody for the purposes of a bail hearing slated for today at the  Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
