'Suspicious' snowmobile activity leads to arrest

32-year-old accused is prohibited from operating any motor vehicle anywhere in Canada and was wanted on an outstanding warrant

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with driving related offences stemming from an incident that occurred during the late evening hours of Friday, Nov. 26 in Timmins.

A concerned citizen called in suspicious activity involving a snowmobile in the vicinity of the intersection of Balsam North and Sixth Avenue.

A responding Timmins Police Service officer located the snowmobile and initiated an investigation that revealed that the operator of the sled was prohibited from operating any motor vehicle anywhere in Canada.

The driver was arrested and taken into custody as it was further determined that the man was the subject of a valid arrest warrant held by the Timmins Police Service.

As a result of the incident, Ryan Leroux, 32 of Timmins, has been charged with:
    •    operate a motor vehicle while prohibited contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    drive while under suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
    •    operate motorized snow vehicle - no insurance contrary to the Motorized Snow Vehicle’s Act
    •    operate motorized snow vehicle - no licence contrary to the Motorized Snow Vehicle’s Act
    •    fail to display proof of registration contrary to the Motorized Snow Vehicle’s Act

The accused was released from police custody on the strength of an Undertaking compelling him to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins on Dec. 1 to address the charges laid against him.
