Suspected methamphetamine seized during arrest

TEMISKAMING SHORES - On Oct. 12, 2021 shortly after 11 a.m. members from the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call to assist the Temiskaming Emergency Medical Service (EMS) on Rorke Avenue in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver was unresponsive. Police awakened the driver and located drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. She was placed under arrest.

A search incident to arrest yielded a quantity of suspected methamphetamine.

The driver was transported to Temiskaming Detachment for further tests.

The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded.

Krista Douglas, a 31-year-old resident of Cobalt has been charged with:
    •    failure or refusal to comply with demand, contrary to section 320.15(1) of the Criminal Code (CC)
    •    operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the CC
    •    possession of a Schedule I substance - methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)

The accused was released by way of an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Oct. 26, 2021 in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

The OPP reminds motorists that any amount of alcohol or drug can impair one's ability to drive. If you observe a suspected impaired driver, please call 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 and report it.
