Suspected cocaine seized after suspicious person call

Police say the accused gave a false name to police upon arrest

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with Criminal Code and Drug Possession offences stemming from an incident which occurred yesterday afternoon (June 16) in Timmins.

While responding to a “suspicious person” call for service in the vicinity of Mountjoy Street North, a Timmins Police Service officer located the subject of the complaint and found him to be holding a baggie of suspected controlled substances in his hand.

An additional responding Timmins Police officer rendered assistance to the initial officer with the arrest of the suspect.

The suspect repeatedly provided a false name to the police upon arrest. The suspect’s genuine name was determined and confirmed by the Timmins Police Service. A quantity of cocaine was seized as evidence by the police.

As a result of the incident, Alberto Tomagatick, 39, of Timmins, has been charged with:

  • Personation with intent to mislead contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a controlled substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.

The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at provincial court in Timmins, to answer to the charges laid against him.
