Stunt driving charge laid on Highway 11 in Moonbeam

MOONBEAM TOWNSHIP - On Jan. 17, 2021 shortly before 3 p.m. members of the James Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting mobile radar on Highway 11 in Moonbeam Township.  

A westbound vehicle approached the police vehicle from the rear travelling in excess of 140 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone.  

The 59-year-old driver from Greenstone is charged with:

  • Stunt driving - excess speed, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The driver was released by way of a summons and is to appear before the provincial offences Court in Kapuskasing in February 2021.

The vehicle was impounded and the drivers licence has been suspended for seven days.
