A local youth is facing charges after a stolen truck was used in a gas-and-dash before being involved in a crash, according to police.

Early Monday morning (March 27), Timmins Police says that a truck was stolen from a Wende Street address. The suspect then allegedly filled up the vehicle at a gas station and fled without paying.

After being involved in a single-vehicle crash off of Goldmine Road, police say the suspect fled and was arrested after a brief foot pursuit.

The name of the young person charged has not been released. Police also didn't say how old the accused is.

The youth is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, impaired driving, failing or refusing to comply with demand, theft under $5,000, escape lawful custody, driving a motor vehicle with no licence, and two counts of failing to comply with a sentence.

The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing today.
