Stolen property, break-in tools seized during traffic stop

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with stolen property related offences stemming from a traffic stop on Eighth Avenue that occurred during the afternoon hours of Friday, June 18.

While on patrol, a Timmins Police officer recognized a local man driving a pickup truck as being a wanted person based on an arrest warrant currently held by the Timmins Police Service.

A traffic stop was initiated by the officer and the man was taken into custody on the strength of the existing warrant.

During this process, stolen goods and break-in tools linked to a residential break-in that had been reported to police earlier in the day were located and seized as evidence.

A weapon was also located and seized as evidence by the investigating officer.

As a result of the incident, Vincent Belair, 34 of Timmins, has been charged with:
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Possession of break and enter instruments contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Drive while prohibited contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Fail to comply with release order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Fail to comply with probation order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Drive while under suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
    •    Drive – no licence contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
