Stealing change from vehicles leads to charges in Hearst

HEARST — On June 10, 2022, members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received information regarding a person going through motor vehicles and taking money on George Street, in the Town of Hearst.

Police observed a person matching the description that was provided and spoke to the person.

As a result of the investigation, Hank Bluff, a 38-year-old resident of Constance Lake First Nation, was arrested and charged with:

  • Theft Under $5,000 From a Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Mischief - Obstructs, Interrupts or Interferes with the Lawful Use, Enjoyment or Operation of Property, contrary to section 430(1)(c) of the CC
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC (Four Counts)

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 31, 2022, in Hearst.
