South Porcupine man dies after single-vehicle crash

A South Porcupine man has died after a single-vehicle crash last night.

The crash happened in the early evening hours of Feb. 11 on Highway 101 between the South Porcupine OPP station and Bruce Avenue Y.

An eastbound passenger vehicle left the roadway and came to a rest in the north ditch of Highway 101, according to Timmins Police. 

The driver, 72-year-old Donald J. Campbell of South Porcupine, was the only person in the vehicle. He was brought to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Next of kin have been notified, said police,

The stretch of highway between Bruce Avenue and Legion Street was closed for about five hours for the investigation, which is being conducted by Timmins Police Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) and Forensic Identification officers.

Timmins Police, South Porcupine volunteer firefighters, the Timmins Fire Department, and paramedics attended the scene.

"The Timmins Police Service wishes to convey its gratitude to those persons who rendered assistance at the scene of this collision," reads the news release.
