The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with a host of Criminal Code firearms offences stemming from an incident that occurred during the early evening hours of Thursday, Sept. 10 in the Goose Creek area Nighthawk Lake.
The Timmins Police investigated an incident where a suspect in a vessel approached a party of four men who were duck hunting in the area of Nighthawk Lake commonly known as Goose Creek.
[It is alleged that] a verbal altercation escalated to a point where a firearm was discharged. The party of duck hunters fled the area for their own safety.
Through investigation conducted by the Timmins Police – Criminal Investigation Division, the suspect was identified and was located and arrested during the afternoon hours of Sunday, Sept. 13 in South Porcupine.
In keeping with the investigation, a search warrant was executed at a William Avenue residence on Sept. 13 where a firearm and ammunition was found to be improperly stored and secured.
These items were taken into possession by the Timmins Police Service to serve as exhibits at the trial of the accused.
Based on the outcome of the firearm incident, Jeffrey Brush, 47 of South Porcupine, has been charged with:
• Firearm – use while committing an offence contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
• Careless use of a firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
• Handle firearm in a careless manner contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
• Pointing a firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
• Discharge firearm with intent to do harm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
• Assault with a weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
• three counts of utter threats contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
• two counts of careless storage of firearm or ammunition contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
The accused person remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charge laid against him.
