SIU investigating Englehart incident

Police say the accused complained of an injury while in custody

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is looking into an Englehart incident. 

According to Temiskaming OPP, police and Temiskaming District Emergency Medical Services responded to a call at a Seventh Avenue residence in Englehart around 3 p.m. June 23.

An Englehart man, 48-year-old Andrew Parker, was charged with assaulting a peace officer, and resist a peace officer.

"While in custody, the accused complained of an injury and was transported to the hospital for a medical examination," reads an OPP news release.

The SIU was notified and its mandate has been invoked. 

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates incidents involving police when there is a death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.

Police say the accused was released with an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in a Temiskaming Shores court Aug. 25.
