Single-vehicle rollover leads to impaired charges in Earlton

Police say the 18-year-old suffered minor injuries

TOWNSHIP OF ARMSTRONG – On Oct. 2, 2021, shortly before 6:30 a.m. members from the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Timiskaming District Emergency Medical Service (EMS) and the Earlton Fire Department, responded to a single motor vehicle rollover on Highway 571, north of Highway 562 in the Township of Armstrong. 

Preliminary investigation revealed that a motor vehicle was travelling southbound on Highway 571 when it lost control and struck the ditch. 

The lone occupant sustained minor injuries, and was transported to hospital as a precautionary measure.

The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded. 

Noah Mercier, an 18-year-old resident of Armstrong Township has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC

The accused was released by way of an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on October 26, 2021 in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

The OPP reminds motorists that any amount of alcohol or drug can impair one's ability to drive. If you observe a suspected impaired driver, please call 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 and report it.
