Second suspect charged after forcible confinement investigation

A second person has been charged after a man was allegedly confined and assaulted over two days back in April.

The incident happened on April 14 at a Joseph Street residence when two suspects "physically controlled and accosted" a 21-year-old man.

"The suspects managed to keep the victim bound within the residence and persisted in repeated assaults on his person in order to have him provide his personal banking information under duress," said police in April. 

"The victim was eventually released and brought to hospital for treatment for significant injuries suffered as their captive."

June 22, Cassie Sheldon, 33 of Timmins, was arrested and charged with: 

  • Assault – Cause Bodily Harm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Assault with a Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Administer Noxious Substance contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Forcible Confinement contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Sexual Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Robbery with Violence contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Uttering Threats contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

In April, 41-year-old Chantal Doucet was charged with a number of offences related to the incident.

Sheldon has been held in custody until a bail hearing today.
