COCHRANE - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind residents in the James Bay Detachments' area to be wary of potential fraud. Fraudsters are using the courthouse number and claiming to be officers of the court.

During the course of the conversation, they are asking for personal information and sums of money.

Important safety tips to remember:

  • Government agencies communicate by sending letters to your home address
  • Never provide personal information such as Social Insurance Number or bank information
  • Never make payments by prepaid cards such as Google Play or make wire transfers
  • Shred unwanted documents to ensure your identity and information is secure
