Replica handgun seized during arrest in Kirkland Lake

52-year-old faces weapons charges as a result

KIRKLAND LAKE - On Nov. 14, 2021, frontline members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol when they observed a person who was wanted in relation to previous outstanding charges on Tweedsmuir Road in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

Police arrested the accused and seized a replica handgun that was in their possession.

As a result, Richard Laforge, 52 years of age of Kirkland Lake, has been charged with:
    •    carrying concealed weapon, contrary to section 90 of the Criminal Code (CC)
    •    possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, contrary to section 117.01(1) of the CC (three counts)

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Dec. 9, 2021 in Kirkland Lake.
