Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is looking into the death of a person in Chapleau.

OPP was called to a Chapleau residence for a person in distress the evening of Jan. 20, according to the SIU news release.

An officer tried to make contact with the person and there was no response. Early yesterday morning (Jan. 21), the OPP's Tactical Response Unit entered the residence and found the person dead, said the SIU.

The SIU is an arms-length agency that investigates police-involved incidents where there has been a death, serious injury, allegations of sexual assault, or the discharge of a firearm at a person.

Three investigators and two forensic investigators are working on the case.
