The Timmins Police Service – Criminal Investigations Division is currently investigating a growing number of instances where counterfeit $100 bills are being fraudulently circulated in the city of Timmins.

Local residents and retailers are advised to be particularly alert when receiving $100 bills in Canadian currency in the course of conducting financial transactions. Residents and retailers are well within their rights to politely decline accepting any currency that appears to be counterfeit or altered in such a way as to affect the genuine nature of the bill being tendered as a legitimate form of payment.

At present, the Timmins Police Service is investigating a number of occurrences and have taken a number of exhibits into their custody as evidence. Anyone who has received payment by means of $100 bills that appear to be counterfeit, is asked to have the genuine nature of any suspect bill confirmed by attending the financial institute of their choice.
