Police seize suspected fentanyl, meth

A 35-year-old faces multiple charges as a result

KIRKLAND LAKE – On July 11, 2021, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a theft from the yard of residence located on Kirkpatrick Street in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

Police located and arrested the accused shortly after they received the complaint.

Further investigation revealed that the accused was in possession of drugs suspected to be opioids (fentanyl) and methamphetamine.

As a result, Jason Cloutier, 35 years of age, of Kirkland Lake, has been charged with the following; 

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) 
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA 
  • Theft under $5000 - contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC) 
  • Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC 
  • Enter premises when entry prohibited, contrary to section 2(1)(a)(i) of the Trespass to Property Act

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Sept. 2, 2021, in Kirkland Lake.
