Police seize suspected cocaine, heroin, during traffic stop in Kapuskasing

The 35-year-old also faces impaired driving charges

TOWN OF KAPUSKASING – On January 11, 2021 members of the James Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a motor vehicle in the Town of Kapuskasing that was observed to be significantly damaged. Investigation revealed that the driver was involved in a single motor vehicle collision, found to have consumed alcoholic beverages and was also in possession of what is suspected to be Cocaine and Heroin.  

As a result of the investigation, Lindy Tschajka, 35 years old, from Kapuskasing was arrested and charged with the following:  

  • Adult operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC), • Adult Failure to stop after accident, contrary to section 320.16(1) of the (CC),  
  • Adult failure or refusal to comply with demand, contrary to section 320.15(1) of the (CC),  
  • Adult operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the (CC),  
  • Adult possession of a Schedule I Substance - Cocaine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),  
  • Adult possession of a Schedule I Substance - Heroin, contrary to section 4(1) of the (CDSA); and  
  • Adult fail to remain, contrary to section 200(1) (a) of the Highway Traffic Act.    

The accused was released by way of an Undertaking, and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Feb. 22, 2021, in Kapuskasing.

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
