Police seize cocaine, heroin, weapons during Saturday morning arrest

The Timmins Police Service has charged a person with weapons and drug related offences stemming from an incident that occurred during the early morning hours of Saturday, May 15 outside of a Riverside Drive sporting goods retail store.

An alert citizen notified the Timmins Police Service of the presence of a suspicious person lurking in the area.

The responding Timmins Police officer located the man in question on the store property meddling with store merchandise stored outside of the building.

The man fled when confronted by police but was eventually taken into custody.

A quantity of cocaine, heroin, weapons, and tools were found among the arrested person’s personal effects when searched incident to arrest.

The combined street value of the controlled substances that were seized is pegged at $200.

As a result of the incident, Ryan Leroux, 32 of Timmins, has been charged with:
    •    Resist peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    three counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Possession of break and enter Instruments contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    two counts of possession of a controlled substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

Leroux remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
