The Timmins Police Service responded to a call for service regarding a lost person who had become disoriented in the Nighthawk Lake area yesterday evening.

The Timmins Police deployed its Emergency Response Team (ERT) and officers making use of force ATV’s at shortly after 8:00 p.m. yesterday evening working in conjunction with the Timmins Fire Department making use of its vessel in a coordinated effort to locate the lost man.

Sporadic communications by means of a cell phone assisted in determining the man’s location.

The 53-year-old man from the Hamilton area was located with the assistance of the OPP’s Canine Unit at approximately 2 a.m. this morning.

The man was attempting to locate a remote parcel of land off of Langmuir Road in the Nighthawk Lake area when he had become disoriented.

The man did manage to make a fire to provide some warmth and to improve his wellbeing during his misadventure.

The Timmins Police Service wish to use this occurrence as a reminder for persons venturing outward in remote areas not to travel alone and to carry the cursory necessities (warm clothing, compass, fully charged cell phone) should they become lost and have to spend prolonged period of time in the bush.
