Officers, civilians and band members honoured

Timmins Police recenty recognized a number of people.

An awards ceremony at Northern College on Sept. 22 saw a number of officers, staff and civilians honoured for their work.

Other members of the band were also acknowledged for their years of selfless service. 

Those picking up honours include snare drummer Deanna Yent, piper Ben Yent (absent), piper Darren Dinel, Lance Corporal Lise-Anne McDonald, piper Bill Chisholm, Paul Armstrong (absent), bass drummer Bill Luke (absent), piper Bill Merritt (absent), and drum sergeant Karyn Luke.

The entire Buczkowski family was acknowledged as each member is currently serving or has served with the Timmins Police Service

One 30-year medal was given to Sgt. Thomas Chypyha, who wasn't at the ceremony because we was returning from taking part in a police funeral in Toronto.

Twenty-year exemplary service medals were given to Const. Leah Blanchette, Const. Chris Litt, Const. Jason Brazeau (absent), Const. Roland Giroux, Sgt. Robin Carter, Staff Sgt. Chad Lilko and Staff Sgt. Mike Fortin

Civilian dispatcher Shannon Merenda received her 20 year plaque for exemplary service

Because graduation ceremonies at the Ontario Police College (OPC) were paused during COVID, new constables were given their respective service badges and warrant cards from Chief Dan Foy.

The new officers are Logan Ferrington, Maggie Poulin, Taylor Buczkowski, Nicholas Buczkowski and Ann-Eliza Lister (absent).

For civilian contributions, two staff members were recognized. 

Renowned Special Olympians Ashley Keizer and Eric Kaija were honoured for their years of service
