After hours of negotiation, a person in crisis surrendered to Timmins Police yesterday.

In the late afternoon of Oct. 3, police responded to a person in crisis call at a Timcor Crescent residence.

The lone male occupant of the residence was in severe distress, say police.

"Acting with public safety in mind, the immediate area was cordoned off and the scene was contained by members of the Timmins Police Service," said police in a news release.

"Police negotiators with the Timmins Police Service were able to establish and maintain open lines of communication with the agitated subject."

The man surrendered to police around 7:45 p.m. and was taken to the hospital for a "thorough assessment".

"The Timmins Police Service wishes to thank the members of the affected neighbourhood for their co-operation during this incident," said police.

"The subject of the complaint was eventually released from police custody unconditionally and has been returned to the care of family members."
