Person charged with shoplifting in Englehart

Police say the 35-year-old was also wanted on a warrant

On May 20, 2021 shortly before 12:30 p.m., members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a shoplifting call on Fourth Avenue in the Town of Englehart.

Further investigation revealed that an individual entered the store and stole a number of items. The individual fled the scene on a bicycle prior to police arrival.

Shortly before 4:30 p.m. the accused was located on Third Avenue in Englehart, and police discovered that she was wanted on an outstanding warrant.  

As a result, Kelly Chaput, a 35-year-old resident of Notre-Dame-du-Nord, Quebec, has been arrested and charged with: 

  • Theft under $5000 - Shoplifting, contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)

The accused was released by way of an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on June 17, 2021, in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

In addition, she was transferred to Notre-Dame-du-Nord, Quebec on the strength of their warrants.
