Over $15K in suspected purple fentanyl seized in New Liskeard

53-year-old faces numerous drug and firearm charges

TEMISKAMING SHORES - On March 31, 2020 at approximately 11 p.m., members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), North East Region Community Street Crime Unit (NER), and the Temiskaming Crime Unit, executed a drug search warrant on Pine Avenue East, in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

Once inside the residence, the OPP located and seized a substantial quantity of suspected purple fentanyl with a street value of approximately $15,600, stolen property, over $1,800 in cash, and drug paraphernalia.

As a result of the investigation, Normand Maille, a 53-year-old resident of Temiskaming Shores, was arrested and charged with:
    •    Trafficking in schedule I substance - opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
    •    Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, contrary to section 86(1) , of the Criminal Code (CC),
    •    Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, contrary to section 117.01(1) of the CC (six counts),
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1), of the CC (three counts), and
    •    Possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime, contrary to section 96(a), of the CC.

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in the City of Temiskaming Shores on June 9, 2020.
