OPP lay sexual assault charges in domestic violence investigation in Earlton

A 39-year-old faces 13 charges

ARMSTRONG TOWNSHIP - On Jan. 2, 2021, shortly after 8:00 a.m. members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began an investigation into historical domestic incidents that took place in the Township of Armstrong. 

The victim allegedly received threats from another person and the incidents were reported to police. 

Police attended the accused's residence, and were successful at locating the individual.

As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old resident of Henwood Township, was arrested and charged with:

  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC) (two counts),
  • Sexual assault, contrary to section 271 of the CC (two counts)
  • Uttering threats - Cause death or bodily harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the (CC) (two counts),
  • Assault with a weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the CC (two counts)
  • Assault, contrary to section 266 of the CC (four counts), and
  • Mischief - domestic, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC.

The accused was held for bail and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date, in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

The OPP will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victim.
