On July 3, 2020 at approximately 5:15 p.m., members of the Matheson Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a residential fire on North Road in Matheson, where two people are deceased.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing by members of the South Porcupine OPP Crime Unit, OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) in partnership with members from the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management (OFMEM) and the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario,
While the investigation is still in the preliminary stages, police believe there is no risk to the public at this time. Members of the community can expect to see an increased presence of OPP personnel and vehicles in the area as the investigation continues.
