One person charged during investigation into suspected overdose death

One person is facing charges after an OPP investigation into the suspected overdose of a Hearst teenager over the weekend.

OPP and paramedics were called to a Highway 11 residence west of Hearst around 4:15 a.m. Sept. 26 for a 16-year-old who was found unresponsive. She later died in hospital.

According to police, the victim has been identified as Fanny Vaillancourt. 

During the investigation, police executed a search warrant at another residence on Houle Street and seized suspected methamphetamine (speed) and methylenedioxymethylamphetamine (MDMA/Ecstasy). The street value of the drugs is $4,300.

Casey Lacroix, 24, of Hearst has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Other Drugs contrary to section 5(2) CDSA

The accused was slated for a video bail hearing in Hearst today (Sept. 28).

The OPP investigation is ongoing under the direction of the criminal investigation branch.
