One man in custody after Porcupine containment

Police say a firearm was used in an 'inappropriate manner' after a dispute earlier today

A man is in custody after a containment situation in Porcupine. 

A dispute earlier today (Aug. 8) involving a local man escalated to the point where a firearm was allegedly used in an "inappropriate manner", says Timmins Police. 

The Emergency Response Team was deployed around 2:45 p.m. and were on the scene for about an hour. During the containment, vehicle and pedestrian traffic were restricted on Frank Street in the Haileybury Crescent area.

A Timmins resident is in police custody due to the incident that the Criminal Investigations Division is investigating.

"There was no immediate threat to public safety as comprehensive efforts to de-escalate the situation were undertaken by the Timmins Police Service," reads a police news release.
