Two people killed in separate Highway 11 crashes

Two people were killed in separate crashes on Highway 11 yesterday.

Aug. 1 around 4:45 p.m., one person was killed in a crash south of Latchford. 

Just after 8:30 p.m. west of Smooth Rock Falls there was another fatal crash.

The name of the deceased in the Latchford-area collision has not been released.

In the Smooth Rock Falls incident, the passenger of the vehicle, 34-year-old Manveer Gill of Winnipeg, was pronounced dead at the scene, said OPP in a news release. The driver was sent to the hospital with serious injuries.

So far this year, nine people have been killed on Highway 11 in the region. There have also been a number of other serious crashes.

Highway 11 was closed in both directions for hours to allow for the police investigations into the incidents. Both stretches of road have reopened. 

Both investigations are ongoing.
