Moosonee teen facing assault charges

Police say the 14-year-old assaulted someone while holding an edged weapon, no one was injured

MOOSONEE — On April 12, 2022, members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assault call where an edged weapon was used. The assault occurred on the corner of Moose Drive and Ferguson Avenue in the Town of Moosonee.

One young person assaulted another person while holding an edged weapon; no one was injured in this incident.

On April 5, 2022, Moosonee OPP responded to an assault on Keewatin Drive in the Town of Moosonee. Further investigation revealed that the same young person assaulted another young person, which did result in injuries.

As a result of the investigation of both incidents, a 14-year-old person, from Moosonee, has been arrested and charged with:

  • Aggravated assault, contrary to section 268 of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Assault with a weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the CC (Two Counts)
  • Obstruct peace officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC

The accused was held for Bail Court and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

The OPP will not be releasing the name of the accused under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).
