Moosonee assault victim dies, charges upgraded to murder

The victim of a serious assault in Moosonee last week has died from their injuries. 

The attempted murder charges against three people have been upgraded to first-degree murder charges.

The incident happened on Oct. 6. James Bay OPP officers were called to a Bay Road residence in Moosonee shortly after 11:30 p.m. and found one person with serious injuries who was brought to the hospital. 

The victim, a 15-year-old, later died in the hospital. OPP are not releasing their identity due to their age. 

On Thursday, Oct. 13, the charges against 29-year-old Cody Linklater, 29, 21-year-old Kaden Blueboy and a 14-year-old were upgraded to first-degree murder. All of the accused are from Moosonee. The youth cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. 

The accused are in police custody. Linklater will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins court via video on Oct. 21 and Blueboy's appearance is on Oct. 17. OPP say the teen will appear in court this month as well. 

The investigation is ongoing. It includes the OPP's James Bay Crime Unit under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.
