Man's arm seriously injured in assault: Police

Police say the suspect also uttered death threats and gave officers a fake name

Two people were assaulted, with one sustaining serious injuries to his arm, in an incident in Timmins.

Yesterday (Feb. 1), there was an altercation at a Preston Avenue residence, Timmins Police says.

Police allege there was a verbal dispute between the occupants. The dispute escalated and an 18-year-old male was assaulted. A second victim, a 42-year-old man, was assaulted with an "edged weapon" and his arm was seriously injured, said police. The 42-year-old victim was brought to the hospital by ambulance for treatment. 

The suspect also uttered death threats to the occupants of the residence and provided a false name to police when he was arrested at the scene.

A 27-year-old Timmins man has been charged with assault, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of uttering threats, and personation with intent to mislead.

The accused is in police custody for a bail hearing today.
