Man wanted on arrest warrant facing drug, weapons charges

Among the charges are carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with Criminal Code offences stemming from an incident that occurred during the noon hour of Tuesday, July 13 in Timmins.

While on patrol, a Timmins Police Service officer recognized a male adult pedestrian on James Avenue as being a person currently listed as wanted on the strength of an arrest warrant held by the Timmins Police Service.

Once the validity of the Arrest Warrant was confirmed, the subject was arrested and taken into police custody.

In the course of being searched incident to arrest, a quantity of narcotics and a weapon were located on the man.

Based on the outcome of the investigation, Shelby Turner, 31, of Timmins, has been arrested and charged with:

  • Carry a concealed weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a controlled substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
  • Fail to comply with probation order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused person remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charge laid against him.
