Man sustains severe leg injury in utility terrain vehicle crash

The Timmins Police Service is currently investigating a single vehicle MVC involving a “side by side” Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) that resulted in severe injury to a passenger.

The single vehicle collision occurred during the late afternoon hours of Wednesday, May 20 on private property in an undeveloped area behind the Your Independent Grocer’s building, off of Hwy 655.

The collision involved a 2015 black Can-am Commander side by side UTV being operated by a 23-year-old South Porcupine man.

Responding Timmins Police Service officers and Timmins Paramedics applied first aid to a 23-year-old male passenger who had sustained a severe leg injury in the collision.

The injured passenger was brought to Timmins and District Hospital by ambulance.

As an open investigation, the Timmins Police Service – Traffic Section is seeking assistance in terms of a public appeal for independent witnesses to come forward with information regarding the collision.

Anyone with relevant information is asked to call the Timmins Police Service – Traffic Section at 705-264-1201.

Additionally, the Timmins Police Service is reminding off road motorized vehicle enthusiasts that the OFSC trail system within the city of Timmins is deemed to be private property during nonwinter months.

Any usage of this trail system by operators of ATV’s, dirt bikes or any motorized vehicles is prohibited as an infraction of the Trespass to Property Act and the Off Road Vehicles Act.
