Man pulls weapon, threatens mother and children: police

The suspect is known to police and was also allegedly in possession of a controlled substance when he was arrested

The Timmins Police Service has investigated a disturbance that occurred yesterday evening (Aug. 14) in a Vimy Avenue laneway where a mother and her children were accosted.

Based on (the) investigation, it was determined that a 32-year-old male suspect, who is known to police, approached a mother and her children in an unprovoked manner and brandished a weapon and uttered threats towards them.

The suspect was identified, located and arrested by the Timmins Police Service.

Quantities of controlled substances were located on the suspect’s person upon arrest.

Based on the ensuing investigation, George Stephen, 32, of Timmins has been charged with: 

  • 2 counts of Assault with a Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • 2 counts of Uttering Threats contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Carry Concealed Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • 2 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

The accused remains in police custody for the purposes of a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
