Man facing assault, impaired driving charges after Englehart altercation

ENGLEHART – On Sept. 24, 2020 shortly before 9:30 a.m., members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for harassment in the Town of Englehart.                                      

Further investigation revealed that an altercation took place on Sixth Avenue near First Street. Once police were called, the individual fled the scene in a vehicle.  

A short time after, the accused was located by police and found to have consumed alcoholic beverages. 

A 73-year-old resident of Sharpe Township, has been arrested and charged with:  

  • Assault - spousal, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC), and  
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC.

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Oct. 13, 2020, in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

The OPP will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victim.
